The wiry and muscular Sharky abounds with self-confidence. He's the typical teenage rowdy and the leader of the shark-pack. He's used to all fish dancing to his whistle. It is self-evident to him, to always get whatever he might desire. And when difficulties arise, he does not shy away from using unfair methods. Sharky is particularly keen on showing Jake who the reef's lord is, while at the same time hoping to impress Lilly, on whom he has thrown an eye. But in the end, Sharky learns that he cannot get everything he desires, and has to adapt to and form part of the society of reef inhabitants.
Kai Hai:
The small-chested Kai Hai balances his physical deficits with his devious character. Sharky's sidekick is a bundled package of malice, who, despite not possessing much body-strength, is still nimble and sneaky. Kai Hai understands too well to skillfully conceal his lacking self-confidence. He only feels really strong at Sharky's and Bully's side. With his meanness, he enjoys to distress the easygoing fish of the reef.
Bully:
Bully, pudgy and lazy, who lisps on top of that, is the dumbly third shark in Sharky's gang. He also feels strong and superior at his personal hero's side, namely Sharky. If Sharky says 'jump', Bully makes like a dolphin.
